Courses and Workshops

Our Courses and Workshops are organized into different Topics, each one represented by a different symbol. You can find them on the top of the horizontal menu, under the Courses and Workshops tab. They are also indexed below this text.

Each course or workshop is included in only one Topic, although many of them could belong to multiple topics. Therefore, we recommend you take a look at all the Topics related to your speciality.

In the Agenda menu, the courses and workshops are listed by date, but please be aware that only those courses and workshops for which registration is open appear there.

Course Introduction to Naturalistic and Scientific Illustration, May 12-16, 2014

Drawing nature: from biology to art and back to science

Our first running of the course Introduction to Naturalistic and Scientific Illustration was a great success. The twenty participants spent an interesting and challenging week learning different techniques that can help researchers to illustrate their findings. Oscar Sanisidro, the instructor, who is internationally known for his work in paleontological reconstructions, kindly taught some of his …

Meeting on Phylogenetic Comparative Methods

Scientific Events from Around the World

Meeting on Phylogenetic Comparative Methods.   The Modern Phylogenetic Comparative Methods Meeting will be held in Seville (Spain), from November 11 to November 15, 2014.Phylogenetic comparative methods are now widely used in very diverse fields of evolutionary biology to make robust inferences from interspecific data and phylogenies. Currently, we witness a rapid flourishing of the …

The Use of Phylogenies in the Study of Macroevolution

Macroevolutionary patterns: how do I work them out?

The second running of the course The Use of Phylogenies in the Study of Macroevolution is next October (27-31). Already, only a week after opening registration, half the places have been filled. After Felsestein’s paper in 1985, “Phylogenies and the comparative method”, concepts such as ancestor state reconstruction, phylogenetic signal and phylogenetic comparative methods have become …

Course Geometric Morphometrics with Plants, April 22-26, 2014

Geometric morphometrics in plants hits the mark (and the landmarks)

The course on geometric morphometrics (GMM) in plants in April this year, taught by Professor Chris Klingenberg of Manchester University and co-written with Ruth Flatscher at Els Hostalets de Pierola, Barcelona (Spain), was the first successful course on this subject for Transmitting Science: Geometric Morphometrics with Plants. The almost impossible is attempted –to be a course …

Course Morfometría Geométrica para Principiantes and workshop Studying Evolution with Geometric Morphometrics, March 5-14, 2014 - Argentina

Great success of the first two courses held in Argentina

The first two courses organised by Transmitting Science in Argentina jointly with the IGEVET (Instituto de Genética Veterinaria “Ingeniero Fernando Noel Dulout”) - CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council - Argentina) took place last March, 2014. These courses (Morfometría Geométrica para Principiantes and Studying Evolution with Geometric Morphometrics) were held at the premises of the CONICET …
