Six years after the first edition the Iberian Symposium on Geometric Morphometrics, last June took place the second edition.
The II Iberian Symposium on Geometric Morphometrics was held in Madrid at Cultural Centre La Corrala – Museo de Artes y Tradiciones Populares from 8th until 10th June, 2016. The event was organized by Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont and Transmitting Science. Moreover, the Universitat de València and Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales participated as collaborator institutions in this second edition.
The Geometric Morphometrics involve main concepts of shape analysis based on coordinates and its multivariate procedures. The analyses involved are useful in any discipline (Biology, Geology, Palaeontology, Archaeology, Ecology, Antropology, etc.) in which the shape and its variation are the principal sources of information. The multidisciplinary nature of Geometric Morphometrics makes for this kind of meetings an interesting forum for specialized discussions.
In the Second edition over 60 researchers and students joined the Symposium from 13 different countries across 5 continents. During three days took place more than 30 oral presentations and 18 posters was exposed. Moreover, the meeting brought together important representatives from Geometric Morphometric topics as keynote speakers: Professor Ángel Baltanás (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), Professor Chris Klingenberg (University of Manchester) and Professor Benedikt Hallgrimsson (University of Calgary).
Madrid, as well as Sabadell was in 2009, has been a key place for researchers on Geometric Morphometrics, covering many research topics from evolution, to genetics, development or ecology. These multidisciplinary research meetings are great experiences to encourage discussion, exchange of views and experiences.
