Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands. The landscape is characterized by three mountain ranges reaching over 2,000 m in altitude, fertile valleys and plateaus, several gorges and beautiful coastline. The island has had a rich cultural history, notably dating back to the Minoan civilization approximately 4,000 years ago. Heraklion is the largest city of Crete. It is a lively city with a rich heritage and a mild Mediterranean climate. It is also home to the School of Sciences and Engineering of the University of Crete, as well as the Natural History Museum of Crete.

Why there:

We organize courses in Arolithos outside the city of Heraklion because we want participants to focus only on the content of the course, without distractions. By being in this isolated and serene environment, participants and instructors can interact and network more efficiently.

Where to stay:

The courses will be held at Arolithos, a small family-run traditional private Cretan village, where you can experience elements of the authentic architecture and lifestyle of Crete. Built on the slope of a mountain in the wild Cretan landscape, you will be surrounded by Cretan nature and will be able to enjoy stunning views. Arolithos is found 11 km away from Heraklion, about a 25 minutes drive from the city. Participants have the option to stay at the venue at a friendly rate during the course (check Accommodation in the course webpage), having the opportunity to interact during free time. This option is strongly recommended, particularly because public transport is not available between Heraklion and Arolithos.

How to get there:

Crete is easily accessible all year round. You can find several flights from numerous European destinations to either Heraklion or Chania airport (a 2 hours drive away from Heraklion). There are also ferries travelling from Athens to Heraklion daily. For those participants that have taken the Accommodation Package, transport will be provided between Heraklion and Arolithos before and after the course. However, if you wish to make your own way to Arolithos, please follow the instructions on the Arolithos website.
